Better Than Yesterday
2 Minute Read
“It’s not about being the best; it’s about being better than you were yesterday.”
When we focus on being better than yesterday, we’re always competing against ourselves. It's You vs. You.
And if we can truly adopt this mentality, we'll improve both psychically and mentally - growing closer to being the type of athlete we want to become.
Physical
When we focus on daily improvement, we set ourselves up for inevitable growth over time.
By being intentional each day and seeking to improve better, we cultivate the discipline needed for consistent progress. When this becomes the goal, the rate we progress becomes irrelevant. Why? Because we are making progress - and that’s what matters.
And over time, as we continuously stack daily progress, our pace of improvement will naturally accelerate. This is because we engage in consistent practice, reinforcing our skills and building confidence. Every effort contributes to the larger picture, and the momentum we create from daily progress will be incredibly motivating and have a real impact on our physical capability.
Mental
When we prioritize being better than yesterday, we shift our mindset from one focused solely on outcomes to one that genuinely appreciates the journey.
This perspective allows us to slow down, enjoy life, and build an actual passion. Everything worth achieving takes TONS of time. But like anything else in life, the big goals worth achieving are only accomplished through daily action. And so if we can build a routine we love, everything else will fall into place.
Instead of feeling overwhelmed by what lies ahead, we can concentrate on the actions we can control today.
Final Thoughts
So remember to measure your progress against yesterday, and nothing else. Setbacks happen, just keep going.
With this mindset, we can build a routine we love and train consistently. Because with consistency, we build passion.
