Progress Lives in the Wait

“Progress lives in the wait.”
Do you know what progress feels like?
We’d like to submit that the answer may actually be no.
In training, we don't really feel progress. Eventually we'll feel the RESULT of progress. But day-by-day, it’s coffee, run, repeat. And we kinda feel… the same as yesterday.
And so, progress lives in the wait - when it feels like nothing is happening. Be patient, because soon we’ll get to experience the result of progress.
The Waiting Game
Waiting can be frustrating.
As normal functioning human beings, we absolutely CRAVE immediate results. We want to see our hard work pay off—yesterday, if possible.
But that’s not how growth works. The truth is that the most meaningful strides in our journey often occur well beneath the surface. The grind of daily training may not feel productive, or like we’re even making progress. But like anything in life, progress lives in the wait. And we’re investing in a process that takes time.
It’s Like A Garden
Think of it as planting a seed: you plant it, water it, watch it, and provide the right conditions for it to thrive. Maybe you even track its progress on Strava (joking).
But for a very long time, you’ll see nothing. And that’s okay. Because without doing the work to set up a foundation for growth, we’ll never get to enjoy the results.
Trusting the Process
This is where patience comes into play. Trusting the process means believing in the unseen work happening within you. You may not feel different after a tough week of training, but your body is adapting. And it’s adapting the only way it knows how: slowly.
Muscles are rebuilding, your heart is strengthening, and your lungs are becoming more efficient. All of this takes time, and that’s okay. You're laying the foundation for future success.
Final Thoughts
“Progress lives in the wait.”
Remember - waiting is not wasted time. It’s essential. And so, you can give yourself permission to enjoy it.
And, with this mindset, we can build a routine we love, and train consistently. Because with consistency, we build passion.
